Thomas L. Seltzer
Retirement Consultant

After his first wife passed away in 1988 with only a small life insurance policy, Tom endured the nightmare of a surviving spouse without an income. He lost his job as the editor of a newspaper six months later and emerged from lean times with a passion for helping families obtain protection from unexpected life events. He began his financial services career with New York Life in 1989 and became an independent advisor in 1994. He specializes in retirement planning, employee benefits and advanced insurance case design.

In 2011, Tom realized a dream by helping his son, Daniel L. Seltzer, launch U.S. Wealth Management of South Texas. The goal is providing true financial planning and wealth management to professionals, business owners and families. This unique, intergenerational dynamic creates an atmosphere of collaboration and team work that provides you with a single point of contact for your retirement, investment and insurance needs. The benefit to you is a team well-equipped to meet all of your family’s financial goals.

Tom has more than 27 years of experience in the area of tax qualified defined contribution and defined benefit retirement plans. He works with employers as a fiduciary to tailor plans to fit their unique objectives in the most cost-effective manner. Tom also works with the employees to provide ongoing education. The benefit to employers is that they can be confident their plan is efficient and compliant with Department of Labor standards. What it means to employees is that they are equipped to reach their retirement goals.

When Tom is not working, he enjoys traveling and spending time with his family. Writing has been a lifelong hobby, and Tom had a novel, “Years of the Locust,” published in 2011. He is actively involved in ministry work with his church. Tom resides in San Antonio with his wife, Jennie. They have four grown children and eight grandchildren.
